Instead of our usual trek to Voleur on Friday for Beer Thirty, a handful of us headed to the 57th Annual Greek Festival at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Northeast Portland (Thanks for the ride Joanna!).
After purchasing talents, walking around, and buying baklava we headed to the beer garden for a little food and beverage. Joanna and Siobhan enjoyed delicious looking gyros, Melinda sampled some baklava, Erin had a tiropita (feta-filled pastry), and I ate a delectable Spanakopita (feta and spinach-filled pastry). It’s also worth noting that we also partook of the Greek wine and local microbrews. On Joanna’s recommendation, Erin and I bought some amazing loukoumades (fried balls of dough dipped in honey, sprinkled with cinnamon) for the table.
Next Siobhan, Erin, and I took a tour of the cathedral. The interior was beautiful and there was an interesting discussion going on about controversy in both the Roman Catholic and Greek Orthodox churches.
At the cathedral I picked up a pamphlet of common Greek phrases that will certainly come in handy once the festival volunteers call me about the trip to Athens I won in the raffle. Pou lne i toualEtta? (They must be super-busy not to have called yet.)
Below are some pictures courtesy of Siobhan.
Anyway, we all had a really great time and hopefully we’ll get to do something like this again soon!

Mouthwatering! Sorry I missed it. Maybe next year.
